Gregory Patrick Farrell – Against The Odds
Gregory Patrick Farrell (1924 – 1997) the third youngest of four boys, stood out as a leader from an early age. Schooled at St Josephs College, Sydney, he served with the RAAF during the last 3 years of WWII. A devoted husband and father to five children, Greg Farrell rose from modest beginnings to build IPEC Transport into a household name, acquiring many other businesses along the way. In particular Farrell, as chairman of Federal Hotels was responsible for the construction of Australia’s first casino – Wrest Point – in Hobart, before leading the expansion of the Federal Hotels business around Australia. At home Greg Farrell enjoyed his family foremost, as well as nurturing passions for horsebreeding and budgerigars.
Awarded the Order of Australia in 1989, for services to transport, Greg Farrell was a modest, yet remarkable Australian.
